Watch the moment an earthquake shakes New Zealand Parliament

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake disrupted New Zealand's Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, causing Deputy Speaker of the House, Anne Tolley, to temporarily suspend the session as a precaution.

The quake was centred over 250 km away in Tongariro National Park, east of New Plymouth on the country's North Island.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries as deeper earthquakes are typically less damaging. The US Geological Survey, said this quake took place at a depth of 227 km.

Thousands across the country felt the quake's tremors, including some on the South Island.

New Zealand sits on the Ring of Fire, a string of volcanoes and earthquakes around the edges of the Pacific Ocean.
